CHAMNI'S EYE STUDIO

Studio

Chamni’s Eye Studio is one of the most influential creative-production spaces in Thailand, and its redesign marked a pivotal moment in Atelier of Architects’ relationship with the country’s top visual artists. As the headquarters of Chamni’s Eye—Thailand’s leading fashion and commercial photography house—the project required a sensitive balance between preserving legacy and introducing a new architectural clarity. The commission involved renovating the original studio designed by esteemed architect Vitool Kunakorn, whose work the firm deeply respected. Rather than erasing its origins, Atelier of Architects chose to retain the essential architectural language—the sun-shading elements, the proportion of openings, and the light-handled geometry that defined the original design. The result is a renewal that honors its past while introducing new spatial lightness and functional precision. Inside, the studio is organized around open, flexible volumes that allow for rapid reconfiguration—essential for fashion photography, film production, and multimedia work. The absence of rigid ceilings and the freedom of the central hall create a workspace where lighting rigs, sets, and equipment can be adjusted without constraint. The environment encourages experimentation, matching the restless creativity of Chamni’s Eye’s artistic output. A key architectural decision emerged during construction: the discovery that even in its unfinished state, the building carried a striking raw purity. Rather than applying the initially planned vertical fin façade, the design embraced this authenticity. The resulting aesthetic is precise, minimal, and structurally honest—aligning with Atelier of Architects’ belief that true character often appears when the unnecessary is removed. Chamni’s Eye Studio stands today as a collaborative home for image-making, a place where architecture supports creativity rather than competing with it. It reflects the studio’s belief that design must be durable, adaptable, and quietly expressive—allowing the work of artists to shine while giving them a space built for freedom, clarity, and continual reinvention.
